We can’t wait to get these new musket display racks into the Varnum Memorial Armory Museum!  These museum display racks have been custom made by Varnum Continentals member Jay Curci, owner and proprietor of The Custom Shop RI (specializing in custom cabinetry, architectural interiors, and fine woodworking).

Many thanks to Jay for his generous donation of materials, hard work, and great skill to the Varnum Continentals!

[GALLERY] New Exhibits for Guns & Beer VII!

November 14, 2016 By James Mitchell Varnum

There’s tons of work going on at the Varnum Memorial Armory Museum in preparation for Guns & Beer VII.  In addition to many new exhibits and artifacts on display, we’ve lined our displays with unbleached natural linen fabric partly to make the artifacts easier to see, but more importantly, to protect them while on display.  You’ll see a whole new armory compared to previous Guns & Beer events. Don’t miss this one even if you’ve visited any of our previous beer tastings.

Roger Williams University Volunteers a Huge Help at the Varnum House Museum

September 17, 2016 By James Mitchell Varnum

The Varnum House Museum was happy to host Roger Williams University volunteers as part of their Community Connections program. We had about ten students on the grounds helping us clean up the house grounds. They filled dozens of organic refuse bags and cleaned up the brush around the outer edge of the grounds.

This program from Roger Williams University helps orient incoming freshmen to the Rhode Island community while also helping local non-profit organizations in need of volunteer services.

We look forward to working with Roger Williams University again in the future as part of this fantastic program.

[DEC. 12 DINNER MEETING] Speaker Greg Banner on The Halifax Disaster

December 3, 2022 By James Mitchell Varnum

In December 1917, a World War I ammunition ship blew up in Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia. This massive event was listed as the largest man-made explosion in human history prior to atomic weapons and totally devastated the city. Thousands died. Our December speaker, Varnum Member Greg Banner, will describe the background, event, response, and results and discuss aspects of military, nautical, local, and emergency response history.

Please take a virtual tour of our museums to learn more about our mission to encourage patriotism.
