Our Historical Marching Militia
Varnum’s Regiment is an active Historic Military Command chartered by the State of Rhode Island. We are committed to preserving the military customs and traditions of the Revolutionary War era and promoting the historic and military heritage of East Greenwich (our hometown), Rhode Island, and our country.
- On May 4, 1775, Varnum’s Regiment received its charter as a unit of the Rhode Island Militia.
- On June 14, 1775, while at the siege of Boston, Varnum’s Regiment was declared part of the newly established Continental Army.
